popptags are printed on the letterpress, a vintage technology that ads elegance through a 3-dimmensional effect created by a hand-fed press that inks a solid plate which is then pressed against paper. This technique dates to 1439, upon the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg. Using this same beautiful craftsmanship today, popptags' impressions are made from custom illustrations, and elegant typography on beautiful papers.
Whitney first started using the letterpress in graduate
school for graphic design. The university had recently
refurbished all their old presses so that students
could learn
the technique. She fell in love with the impressions and
started incorporating letterpress printing in her design.
Anya grew up in a house of bibliophiles, filled with letterpress books, manuscripts and papermaking tools and ephemera. An art major in college, it only made sense that she'd find her way back to paper and presses.
